After reviewing the Implicit Bias video in this week’s Interactive Lecture, choose a culture that you are not familiar with for this assignment. In a reflective essay include responses to each item below:

Option #2: The Case of Margarita

Read Margarita’s case below and prepare case notes following your first visit. Include responses to the following questions in your notes:

What additional questions would you ask Margarita during your first visit with her?
What would you do differently to provide services for Margarita now that she has shared her family situation with you?
As a Case Manager, how can professional development help you become more culturally competent? Share a plan with steps you can take to improve in this area.

Case:

Margarita is being seen by a medical provider after a fall at her home that caused her to injure her arm. During the visit, it becomes apparent that she is very unhappy and worried about being in the office. As the Case Manager for Orthopedic patients, you are asked to meet with Margarita to ensure she will be able to care for herself when she returns home. While talking with Margarita, she comments that she is caring for her husband and three children at home which she also shares with her sister’s family. She is worried that her injury will affect her ability to work and that she will not be able to afford the medical bills. While she is in the United States legally, her husband and sister’s family is not. She is very nervous about receiving medical care due to her family situation.
