Essay (40%) – 2500 words
Your essay will critically evaluate a range of apocalyptic and non-apocalyptic texts (at least 4) to assess the former’s value in the promotion of various forms of environmental study.
Within this rubric, you are free to use your own criteria of value, whilst also making room for the multiplicity and plurality valued in the Environmental Humanities. This includes multiple texts, (disciplinary) approaches, and also an account of your learning “with a wider community”, both as the community you have learned with in this module, and wider communities and contexts in which you situate yourself. As a result, you will engage in a personal interpretation and analysis of your chosen texts, but also situate this within your observations of the wider impact of these texts on your peers, according to the criteria of value that you have established through your presentations.
For each text, you should evaluate the extent to which you think it is apocalyptic and explain how it contributes to your engagement with the issue(s) you have selected. For example, if you find a text not to be apocalyptic, but extremely impactful, you might argue that apocalyptic culture does not help with the issue(s) you have chosen. Likewise, a highly apocalyptic text that had a significant impact would support the opposite conclusion. As this is a comparative essay, you might also consider which texts are more or less impactful, or perhaps how texts are impactful in different ways.
Your concluding section should include an evaluative reflection on the different sources of evidence and their contribution to your argument. How have different kinds of texts and approaches to texts helped in your analysis. You might consider the following:
Kinds of text
Fiction vs non-fiction; medium (poetry, prose, film/TV, image [painting, photography etc]; popular culture vs fine art/literature etc.
Approaches (what you do with the text)
• Formalist/aesthetic approaches (close reading, analysis of rhetoric, genre, form, emotional impact, techniques)
• Philosophical approaches (analysis of logic and argument on the grounds of structure and validity)
• Comparative and contextual approaches: linking texts to cultural, intellectual, historical contexts; comparing texts, especially from different genres, media, historical periods, or cultures.
Requirements: 2500 words (not included the reference pages)
Masters Literature
Hello, my friend. This is a final essay for literature and Environmental Humanities
And before this essay. I did a presentation. But the grade was very low: 50/100. These are the feedback and PowerPoint- see attached ppt
I’ve already chose two texts (Walden, and Silent Spring). Please review the powerpoint carefully to understand my topics and choose another two texts for the following analysis. Please write it with academic and deep analysis because this professor is very strict about the grade. Thank you so much
