2. Respond to Jessica ” I enjoyed creating a treatment plan for Hallie and her family for the unit 9 assignment. This assignment was very helpful as it provided insight into how to work with a child and their family. I also enjoyed utilizing theories such as cognitive behavioral theory when working with children and adolescents. Putting the theories into use with children and adolescents was helpful as it showed how to utilize them across age groups. In the future, I hope to work primarily with children and adolescents in my career as a counselor. This class has allowed me to understand better how to work with this population and provided me with tools and interventions to do so. I am excited to take this knowledge with me into my practice as a counselor. Thank you for a great semester!”

- What are your thoughts on creating a treatment plan for the child or adolescent client you created for the Week 9 assignment (and his or her family, if applicable)?
- This was such an interesting class – I loved being able to take clients throughout the week and add on what we learned. Creating a complete treatment plan was a lot of work but with all that work I learned so many new interventions for children and adolescents in regards to role play, and play therapy. I foresee myself using some of these techniques in the future with my practice.
- How would you compare and contrast the theories you selected to address the cases enhanced your knowledge of these theories as they apply to children and adolescents? Explain.
- Counseling theories always tend to confuse me but I like to get out of my CBT or Reality Theory comfort zone and learn the interventions of different theories. It was nice to think outside my comfort zone even if I would end up choosing CBT or Reality Theory.
- How will the knowledge and skills you obtained in this course impact your current or future work with children and adolescents?
- As a mother who is a domestic violence survivor who had a child when the incident happened, I do forsee myself taking on children and adolescent clients in regards to healing and processing the violence they saw. I want to be able to connect with others in my field, such as music therapy, and those who are dedicated to play therapy to help future clients.
- What growth and development occurred within the realm of your professional identity?
I often hear about how children are so resilient, and they are BUT I think they deserve the tools to be resilient. It also breaks my heart for what they go through. Children shouldn’t need counseling. I wish children never had to go through what they do. It is something that I will need to make sure that I have my own counselor and self care up to help children through what they have witnessed. “
