  1. Application of Course Knowledge

    2. Create an original case study based on a common chief complaint seen in clients in primary care settings in the body system related to the lowest-scoring knowledge area. Select a chief complaint not already covered in this term’s iHuman case studies.
    3. Case study requirements:
      1. Include the chief complaint, demographics, previous medical history (PMHx), previous surgical history (PSHx), allergies, lifestyle, history of present illness (HPI).
      2. Analyze associated risk factors/demographics that contribute to the chief complaint and differential diagnoses
      3. List three common differential diagnoses for the chief complaint, including pathophysiology and rationale, from the topic area identified on the APEA exam.
      4. Discuss how the three differential diagnoses differ from each other in occurrence, pathophysiology, and presentation. Your discussion should compare and contrast these diagnoses rather than listing them.
      5. Describe relevant testing required to diagnose/evaluate the severity of the three differential diagnoses.
      6. treatment plan based on one of the three differentials
      7. appropriate diagnostic tests and expected results
      8. medications and non-pharmacologic treatments
      9. suggested consults/referrals
      10. client education
      11. follow-up
      12. Present applicable national guidelines related to diagnosis and diagnostic testing for the differential diagnoses.
  2. Integration of Evidence
    1. Discussion post is supported by appropriate, scholarly sources; AND
    2. Sources are published within the last five years or are most recent clinical practice guideline; AND
    3. Reference list is provided and in-text citations match.
  3. Professionalism in Communication: Present information in a logical, meaningful, and understandable sequence that is relevant to the discussion topic.
    1. Grammar, spelling, and/or punctuation are accurate.
    2. Good writing calls for the limited use of direct quotes. Direct quotes in discussions are to be limited to one short quotation (not to exceed 10 words). The quote must add substantively to the discussion.
  4. Reference Citation: Provide references with complete information as required by APA (0-1 errors). Include in-text citations included for all references AND references for all in-text citations (0 errors).
  5. Initial Participation Requirement: Provide a substantive response to the graded discussion question(s) or topic(s), posted by the course faculty (not a response to a peer), by Tuesday, 11:59 p.m. MT of each week.
