Choose one of the following two assignments to complete this week. Do not do both assignments. Identify your assignment choice in the title of your submission.

Option #1: Suicide Assessment

At a recent visit to an elderly client’s room in an assisted living facility, he shares that after losing his spouse recently he sees no reason to go on living.

Part 1:

Perform an assessment using the Scale for Impact of Suicidality-Management, Assessment and Planning of Care (SIS-MAP) referenced in Chapter 4 of the Guide to Crisis Intervention text. Be creative in your assessment as you determine if the client has the motivation and means to take such action. 

Part 2:

Include 2-3 pages at the end of the Suicide Assessment document that includes the intervention and/or actions that would you recommend based on his responses to the questions asked. In your essay, also share if there are additional questions you would like to ask the client, and why those questions are important in your assessment.

Option #2: Influence of Protective Factors

Then write an essay describing the different crises that she was confronted with. Give attention to personal and environmental risk factors, warning signs of negative response to the crisis, and the personal and environmental protective factors that helped her in moving through the crisis.

In your paper, address the following:

  • What were some personal and environmental risk factors that influenced her experience of the
  • different crises?
  • What were some warning signs that would have indicated that Ms. Lee was going to have a
  • negative response to her various crises?
  • What were the personal and environmental factors that helped Ms. Lee survive her crises,
  • physically and emotionally.
