I enjoyed using this weeks exercise, however not all of the answer choices were things that I would say to my patient. Personal and professional background tremendously impacted how I would interact the patient, but at times, I do think my personal experiences help me to better support my patients because I am able to relate to them. However, as a professional, whenever I am faced with a difficult situation I use the nursing ethics that I have been taught to guide me in these situations. I do feel the responses listed were typical and reasonable. At times, we can seem as though we are ignoring our patients emotional needs when we are busy trying to treat their physical needs. I was taken aback by some of the patient’s reactions, but generally when the right answer was chosen, the patient’s response was positive and they opened up to the practitioner. In reality, not every patient will respond positively no matter how well your response is to their dilemma, however, it is important to know what to say regardless of how they respond, so that you will be better equipped to help them.

After reviewing this week’s exercise, I found myself somewhat biased in a couple of those scenarios, I did find some scenes more difficult to deal with than others based on my background. I did not feel any internal conflict. My background could have led to one of the scenarios where the conversation made the nurse appear she was not genuine in her response to the patient. So, I learned that the method may not be the best choice. Most of the responses I would have considered as typical. I was not taken aback by any response. I think this exercise helps the nurse to remain professional and not allow personal or emotions to lead the conversation. One of the scenarios led the nurse to just ask a simple question, not any persuasion. This led the patient to think about her own decision
