QUANTITATIVE AND QUALITATIVE DATA COLLECTION METHODS WORKSHEET
Luis has a lot of work ahead of him to plan his colorectal cancer screening program. To help prepare and get himself in the right mindset, he thinks about programs that he has read about or participated in and the characteristics that made those programs effective or ineffective. He considers the different levels of prevention and determines that this screening program should focus on secondary prevention. He also thinks about the basic assumptions associated with health promotion and how he might use these in his own plan. How can he better understand the behaviors of the adults in his community? How can he motivate them to want to get screened?
Consider the following case study:
Now that Luis has considered the level of prevention most appropriate for his program, he needs to select a planning model to organize his ideas. He considers MAP-IT, the CHANGE tool, and PRECEDE-PROCEED as possible choices. How does he determine which model will work best for this particular disease and community? Once he chooses a model to focus on, what types of data should he gather and how should he gather it?
Researchers use various methods to ensure that programs are meeting the objectives they set out to accomplish. They often utilize quantitative and qualitative data to assess the needs of a community and determine appropriate programs and interventions to reduce morbidity and mortality of diseases. The quantitative and qualitative data collection methods worksheet will allow you to critically examine planning models and data collection methods in a real-world scenario, and that is the focus of this Assignment.
To prepare:
- Read Chapter 3 of the McKenzie et al. (2023) textbook on planning models.
- Consider quantitative and qualitative data collection methods that might align to each planning model.
- Consider what kinds of questions would help you gather information.
