Invention is the stage in the writing process during which we come up with ideas and questions which we will then further explore in the writing. Invention is important and should be done systematically (rather than just sitting, staring at the ceiling, and waiting for inspiration to strike). While different writers approach invention differently, there are some strategies we all can learn, use, and benefit from.
This assignment seeks to familiarize you with some of those strategies and help you use them in your research project.
