For your Final Project in this course, you will be completing a program evaluation proposal with a small group of classmates. Working with teams can be challenging, but it also can be beneficial, especially when it comes to sharing ideas and expanding your thinking on those ideas. Beginning in Week 2, you will work within a team to complete weekly assignments related to your team’s program evaluation proposal. Before you are assigned to your team, you will post your preferences (ranked) from a provided list of Requests for Proposal (RFPs).

In this Discussion, you reflect on your interests, your choices between the available projects, and how they might relate to real-world experiences.

To prepare:

Review all of the Program Evaluation Requests for Proposal (RFPs) in the Learning Resources. Consider your preferences for which projects you would prefer to work on this term.
BY DAY 4
List all of the available RFPs in the order of your preference for your team project (use RFP number to identify it). Place a “1” before your first choice, “2” before your second choice, etc.
Explain why you would prefer these choices. Describe any special “real world” experiences you may have had that are related to the particular kind of program/project. Is it a type of program/project you would like to be involved with in your actual work, now or in the future? Is the project compatible with your degree/program specialization?

Here’s an example of what the assignment I just sent you should look like below. 

1-RFP#2- Opiod Addiction Prevention.

Opioid Addiction is an important topic as teens are dying at an alarming rate due to overdose. According to the Center for Disease Control (2023) overdose deaths among persons aged 10–19 years (adolescents) increased 109% from July–December 2019 to July–December 2021; deaths involving illicitly manufactured fentanyl (IMFs) increased 182%. Approximately 90% of deaths involved opioids and 84% involved IMFs. Counterfeit pills were present in nearly 25% of deaths. (CDC, 2023).  Due to these recent alarming increases a focus on prevention is important as it needs to be addressed.  It has been found that universal prevention strategies are effective at preventing youth in using opiates. (Wagner et al., 2021).  This RFP is evaluating whether providing prevention material to elementary school students will prevent addiction. I currently work in the mental health world and support teens with mental health disorders.  In doing so, I hear about how prevalent and often children overdosing on opiates without being aware that they had even taken the drug. With previous research that  indicates it is effective in prevention and my passion for my current work, this RFP is my first choice.

2-RFP# 5- Sexual Harassment in Academia

The reason why the RFP #5 is my second choice is that I believe education is important for a person’s development and they should feel safe where they are learning.  The RFP indicated that women are 3.5x more likely to experience sexual harassment in academia. It was also found that victims of sexual harassment are reluctant to report it. The RFP is to evaluate if the training that is offered is effective in reducing incidents of sexual harassment.  I prefer this RFP, as I am part of the population that is 3.5x more likely to experience sexual harassment and I want know that whatever the institution is doing is effective in preventing my safety at school.

3-RFP #1- Anti-Bullying

The RFP is to evaluate the fidelity of the implementation of the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program in 2 different schools. I do believe that addressing bullying is important, I am not sure that I am invested in the OBPP model.  Within the OBPP model the adults should show warmth, authority, limits on acceptable behavior, and use non-violent interventions.  ( Olweus and Limber, 2010).  Since the boom of social media (post 2010) bullying has taken on a completely different lifeform than when the model was created in 1983, which makes it difficult for me to be interested in it.  What would make this a more interesting model if it were one that expands the location of bullying to the virtual world.

4-RFP #3- Parent Management Experiences

RFP#3 is evaluating the experiences of families who are engaged in the PMT program.  They are hoping to gain information about if the process helped them gain awareness.  In my work I would not be involved in a project in working with families.  However, I could be working with groups of people and evaluating if some program (other than PMT) helped gain awareness and effectiveness.

5- RFP#4- PMT Effectiveness

RFP #4 wants to evaluate if the PMT program is effective in reducing challenging behaviors. In my work in mental health, I will have to implement an intervention, then evaluate whether it is effective, however the subject matter is not one of interest for me.
