In this project, the student needs to define all the aspects of marketing and advertising, including: I. Developing a unique selling proposition, which identifies the qualities of your product that sets you apart from your competition. Uniqueness can come in a variety of ways including price, method or quality of service, size, color and other characteristics or attributes.
- Turning the business features into benefits. When creating a marketing plan, the student should focus on the customers’ benefits, not on what the product/service offers.
- Identifying the target market, which is the group of people who want or need the service. List their motivation and characteristics such as age, gender, socioeconomic status and other characteristics. The student can have more than one target group.
- Determining the places that the target market visits and the media outlets they read or watch. When it comes time to promote the business, the students need to put their promotional materials directly in front of the market. To do this, the student needs to know what the target market reads, what places they frequent, which radio stations they listen to, what websites they visit and what groups they belong to.
- Creating marketing materials that speak to the target audience. If the student has more than one target group, he/she tailors the materials to fit each of them. The strategies that the students use should focus on their customer–where they are and what types of marketing to which they respond. For example, if the target group is new moms for example, create ads and articles for parent magazines and websites.
