Follow these guidelines when completing each component of the assignment. Contact your course faculty if you have questions.

Mental health care is often initiated in the primary care setting. Screenings are a critical part of identifying clients who may require psychiatric care.

  1. Application of Course Knowledge:
    1. Identify your clinical practicum setting (primary care office, urgent care, etc.) and a population that you typically see (i.e., adolescents, women, older adults).
    2. Discuss mental health screening tools used at your clinical site. If no screening tools are currently used, which ones would you recommend?
    3. Describe the quality of the mental health care you have observed. Discuss disparities or biases, if any, in the care provided to different members of the population.
    4. Screening opportunities are often missed in vulnerable populations and those with limited access to care. Describe at least TWO changes you recommend in your practice setting and community to increase the frequency of mental health screenings within vulnerable populations.
  2. Integration of Evidence: Provide support from a minimum of one scholarly in-text citation in addition to the textbook.
  3. Engagement in Meaningful Dialogue: Respond to a student peer and course faculty to further dialogue.
    1. Substantive posts contribute new, novel perspectives to the discussion using original dialogue (not quotes from sources).
    2. Student responds to at least one peer.
    3. Student responds to all direct questions posed by faculty.
    4. Post includes evidence from at least one scholarly resource to support interactive dialogue.
  4. Professionalism in Communication: Present information in a logical, meaningful, and understandable sequence that is relevant to the discussion topic.
    1. Grammar, spelling, and/or punctuation are accurate.
    2. Good writing calls for the limited use of direct quotes. Direct quotes in discussions are to be limited to one short quotation (not to exceed 10 words). The quote must add substantively to the discussion.
  5. Reference Citation: Provide references with complete information as required by APA (0-1 errors). Include in-text citations included for all references AND references for all in-text citations (0 errors).
  6. Wednesday Participation Requirement: Provide a substantive response to the graded discussion question(s) or topic(s), posted by the course faculty (not a response to a peer), by Wednesday, 11:59 p.m. MT of each week.
  7. Total Participation Requirement: Provide at least three substantive posts (one to the initial question or topic, one to a student peer, and one to a faculty question) on two different days during the week.
