Your Topic: Your personal Media Log
Assignment Details: Purpose: This assignment is designed for you to discuss concepts of communication models, audience analysis, theories of mass communication, social effects and/or media criticisms by exploring your own media viewing and consumption habits and routines. You will explain personal media choices and reactions using mass media theories (MLO 2).
Task: Follow the instructions below.
- Recall the last 24 hours of your life, especially every instance you interacted with media, intentionally or not. An intentional instance, for example, would be one in which you decided to see what posts are on Twitter. An unintentional instance, for example, would be exposure to video advertisements on a gasoline pump while you’re filling up your car.
- List what you were doing at the time, what platform or device you were using and whether each experience is typical for you. You might have several entries for the same time, if you are multitasking. You will have some blank spaces where you aren’t experiencing media at all.
- After you have compiled your list, write a reflective statement of approximately one-half page about anything you may have learned about yourself.
- Discuss your media log using these guiding prompts or questions:
Evaluate information sources in your Media Log. Was it opinion, fact, or some combination? Do you trust some of your sources more than others? Why or why not?
Describe at least three media theory effects discussed in this module that might be implicated by any of your log entries.
Do you monitor your “screen time?”
How much of your experience was solitary, and how much was with others?
Did some of your media experience happen because of others? Explain.
- Submit your media log of approximately three typed pages total by the deadline.
