Choose one of the following two assignments to complete this week. Do not do both assignments. Identify your assignment choice in the title of your submission.
Option #1: Informational Interview
Review the article, I’d like to get to know you well: Conducting an Informational InterviewLinks to an external site. by Sara Sutler-Cohen, Ph.D. Then consider the area of Case Management or human services you have an interest in working in, or which area is most interesting to you. This may include mental health, working with Veterans, foster care, Children’s Services, etc. (Check with your instructor if you are unsure the area of focus or agency you choose is appropriate).
Research agencies and organizations in your area that provide services in your area of interest. Contact the office to request an interview with a Case Manager. This should be completed a few weeks in advance of the assignment due date as it may take some time to set up the interview. You may complete the interview via video conferencing or over the phone.
Based on Dr. Sutler-Cohen’s article, prepare for the interview by selecting 8-10 questions you will ask the Case Manager. The purpose of the interview is to learn more about the Case Manager role. You are welcome to ask different and/or additional questions.
- After you have completed your interview, include the following in your paper:
- Summarize the responses received from the Case Manager you interviewed.
- What was your overall impression of the interview?
- Was there any responses or information that surprised you? If so, why?
- Share why you chose this area of focus and Case Manager to interview.
- Would you be interested in a similar role? Why or why not?

Option #2: Plan for Networking
Over the last several modules, collaboration with team members and colleagues inside and outside of the organization has been discussed. Networking is one aspect of collaboration and is key to being a successful Case Manager.
- Develop a plan for Networking that you can utilize as a Case Manager. Your plan should include the following:
- Why networking is important in Case Management.
- Different kinds of networking options (i.e. electronic, in person, etc.) and the advantages and disadvantages of each.
- Various organizations or resources that you could use for networking and how you selected them.
- Ethical considerations when networking.
