Children who get severe sunburns are nine times more likely to get skin cancer as adults
DB week 2: A study released by the National Institutes of Health in the fall of 2007 found that children who get severe sunburns are nine times more likely to get skin cancer as adults. On August 18, 2020, a 31-year-old Ohio woman named Eve Hibbits was arrested for child endangerment at the Jefferson County Fair for allowing her 3 children to get second-degree sunburns. She was jailed in lieu of $15,000 bail. Did the Sheriff of Jefferson County overreact or was this an appropriate punishment? According to CNN, on August 14, 2020, Eve Tibbits took her then two-year-old and twin 10 month old babies (one of them had a collapsed lung since birth) to the fair. They did not apply sunscreen to the children, when confronted with the red faces her husband asked her where to buy the sunscreen. Eve spent 8 days in jail and was released. This might have been a lapse on her part. Anyone can underestimate the amount of time spent in the sun or how sunny it is, right
