I was so intrigued as I read this article by McDowall, as I never even sought to consider the potential patterns and waves seasonally speaking that crime may begin and occur in. Based off of my reading of this article, I believe that the largest source for the variations in crime patterns is the social activities that change with certain holidays such as Christmas and New Years, along with school holidays and/or vacations. It is also easy to assume that the majority of crimes being the most impacted by these seasonal changes would be property crimes, theft, robbery, and others. My thinking about crime has definitely expanded in including my careful consideration of the waves of crime patterns and how there are various external circumstances that occur in order to either increase or decrease crime. I also think that being aware and knowledgeable about this seasonal shifts will be useful for law enforcement and data analysis personnel in order to better implement crime prevention techniques. Furthermore, with this useful information there could be many training sessions to inform the public about more high risk seasons during the year and better ways to operate while still enjoying the holidays and summer vacations to the fullest and safest extent possible.

This article was super interesting to read and see all the crime levels and how that measures with the weather outside or what is happening around those months. The seasonal crime and how it fluctuates is the holidays and how that can make people feel. For example, in table one, a bunch of offenses is listed, and the months show the average crime in that specific month. Rape is much higher in the summertime. In May, the average is at .20663, and the jump to June is insane. June, July, August, and September, the average is at .3. Once it hits October, the standard goes back down to .1. In summer, no one is in school, everyone is out almost every day and night, the cities become more packed as do a lot of other things, that is why I believe the rate of rape spikes significantly. My thinking of crime has changed dramatically after reading this article because now I am more aware of when crime is at an all-time high; I have a daughter, so reading these stats it just is going to make me a more protective mother in the summertime because that is when crime across the board spikes.
