“For the unit 2 discussion this writer selected the impact of homelessness on adverse childhood experiences. This writer worked in Social Service roles (Adult Protective Services, Legal Advocacy) for several years for an agency with a homeless & domestic violence shelter on site and witnessed numerous children reside and pass through both environments. Determination-wise homelessness is not considered an ACE, but due to the increased exposure to the other aspects and the impact just being homeless can have on a child, this writer feels it should be considered. The article selected follows suit with this line of thought. In the article Homelessness in Childhood and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). This article presented a series of statistics to show how children who have experienced homelessness are more likely to have experienced ACEs to a greater degree. The article presents data such as, only 30.6% of adults who reported no homelessness as children identified as having divorced or separated parents, when looking at this who experienced homelessness that percentage jumped to 66.5%. Similar results were indicated when looking at emotional abuse with 30.2% of those who never experienced homelessness reporting emotional abuse vs 66.4% who have. (Radcliff et al., 2019) The data presented shows a link between homelessness and an increased exposure to ACEs.

This article had the word resilience in it. I heard forever that covid would be okay because children are so resilient and they can make it through. After subbing in the schools post covid, kids are not resilient, they experience just the same emotions and tend to not have the outlets needed to process. The delays I have seen in the middle school group of kids transitioning from elementary school to middle school have seen such a deficit in math and reading scores and just simply social delays. I feel as though some of these kids will have lasting effects until adulthood due to the covid lockdowns and limiting of social intelligence. According to the article by Hamby et. al (2021) adverse childhood experiences studies and related research have revealed that victimization and trauma are more common than previously known and that trauma dose, in the form of the number of types of adversities, is strongly associated with more than 50 biopsychosocial outcomes. The other statement that ACE focuses exclusively on family problems is underestimating trauma exposure when children face larger traumas (Hamby et. al, 2021). I was a little confused about the ACE before I read this article. I still am learning about it but it was really interesting to read and learn about as it makes me think of the kids and teens I am subbing and how different traumas have affected their lives and how they are coping.

4.ANALYZING RESEARCH AND APPLYING EVALUATION KNOWLEDGE- ADV STAT EVAL CLASS- WEEK 2

For this discussion, complete the following:

  • Critique Bowland, Edmond, and Fallot’s 2012 article, “Evaluation of a Spiritually Focused Intervention With Older Trauma Survivors.”
    • Identify one limitation in the evaluation design or in how the authors interpreted the findings.
    • Discuss how you might address that limitation if you were to replicate the study. What further questions do you have about the effectiveness of this intervention?
  • Assume that you are conducting an evaluation at your current or previous work, internship, or volunteer site. What type of evaluation would you use (for example, need, process, outcome, and/or efficiency)? Reference the course readings.
    • List three potential research questions.

Note that your post should be substantive and be 500 words. It should be well-organized and proofread.

Initial posts are due by Thursday night.

RESPONSE GUIDELINES

Respond to at least one peer. Give constructive feedback on the peer’s research questions. Make a recommendation on how to design a potential evaluation, in which you explicitly discuss how you would operationalize the dependent variables. You might also apply a different type of evaluation to the peer’s program (for example, if your peer describes a process evaluation of a program, you might describe an outcome evaluation of that program).

Note that your response post should be substantive and be at least 250 words. It should be well-organized and proofread.

5. Respond to brandi.. ” According to Bowland, Edmond, and Fallot 2012, one limitation in the article Evaluation of a Spirtually Focused Intervention with older Trauma Survivors is that it only includes older women in the spirituality evaluation. There are many individuals who are trauma survivors which include, all age groups, not just women who are 55-years and older, who also may use sprituality as a source of healing. Bowland, Edmond, and Fallot 2012 included a small number of experiences that were specifically designed to women age 55-years and older. There is much research that often shows that individuals have different concepts that will overlap inseperable when it comes to religion and spirituality. The experiences of these individuals are personalized helps in the process of growing and is considered sacred to everyone differenlty, based on personal experiences (Bryant-Davis 2013). In many included research many coping may include religion to relieve certain stress, improve relationships with friends/family , depression, and help with self-esteem. Religion and spirituality may include people who are survivors of domestic violence, child abuse, sexual abuse, sex trafficking, war, refuge trauma, and torture (Bryant- Davis 2013). According to Bowland, Edmond and Fallot 2012, Bowland was able to recruit many individuals for one year and five months which only included females with the ages of 55-years and older and only included St. Louis, Missouri. The individuals within the research all all were able to participate in the study due to seeing ads located in senior newspapers, posters. The participates consisted of volunteers who were able to respond to the ad. The individuals all had some type of listing of physically sexual abuse but were not experiencing it at the time of the study. According to Bowland, Edmond, and Fallot 2012, the ad did specify that only women of Christianity could respond could not be in therapy, had no cognitive impairments, and had no active suicidal tendancies or psychosis. If I were able to do this study I would like to be able to search men and women between the ages 18-70. These participants would be able to include individuals who have had recent physical, sexual, and child abuse. These individuals would not be expected to participate in a religious organization but they must have the beliefs. To be able to improve the effectiveness I would include, questions such as, is the recent trauma or abuse current with the individuals, is the individual currently attending religious meetings, or a religious organization, is psychotheraphy being actively used. After all this is determined the groups would be seperated to get a good reporting. I currently do not have any experience that could be used for this evaluation. However, I did do my internship with a company where I had to do research different suicide areas. This evaluation would be very helpful because it would be able to show what individuals participate in religious or spirtual practice to help with different situations. When I was doing my internship and doing different research it amazed me on how many individuals interacted and participated in different religion to cope with different situations. The need for the evaluation would be to help individuals cope with th loss of a loved one. The process will follow the list above, the outcome would be the many individuals who lost a loved one to suicide are able to be part of religion. The efficiency would intell that individuals over the age of 18 would be able to participate in a religion instead of community.
