Research is a diligent systematic inquiry or study that validates and refines existing knowledge and develops new knowledge (Gray & Grove, 2019). Working in a rural ER, I have the unique opportunity to see everything. From trauma to delivering a baby, I’ve seen it all, and am still learning daily. With our facility being so small we have a 1-person education “team”. That one person is responsible for staying up to date on the latest evidenced-based practice and changing policy and procedure to reflect the latest evidence-based practice. Fortunately, we are a great team, and we all continue to research, and learn to ensure the best outcome for our patients. Our providers also continue to learn and are more than willing to teach the nurses (even the things out of our scope simply for our own understanding). With our facility being so small, I do not think we can expand too much, but we can continue to work as a team and push each other and teach other to ensure the best outcome for our patients.

“Research is investigation or experimentation aimed at the discovery and interpretation of facts, revision of accepted theories or laws in the light of new facts, or practical application of such new or revised theories or laws” (Merriam-Webster. (n.d). I work in public health and our health officers, Infection Control Nurse and the Administrator do research about what is the best approach on handling the covid crisis and the monkey pox outbreak. They research on what is the current vaccine available and how often and who can receive the vaccine that will be distributed to the public. Research was also done on what masks to wear, isolation precaution and testing for employee and the public. The goal was to keep everyone safe and offer the vaccine to as many people as possible. The research and guidelines that we follow in public health are from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Any changes regarding covid, goes through multiple department for evaluation and approval before we are able to make those changes. Public health do other research on other topics such as monkey pox and flu.
