Case Study 3: Article B Introduction Questions

Questions:

  1. The second video mentioned national efforts present to find and return looted artwork. Do you believe stolen artwork should still be a national concern today? Why do you think people are still willing to go through the courts today to reestablish ownership of their family’s art?

  4. Remember restitution looks different for different cases. What are the different outcomes wanted in the examples you saw in the videos and the article? Also, were the institutions or people who held the artwork always aware of it?
  5. The museums in this case did not directly steal the artwork. The Nazi regime stole the artwork and housed it in museums, which have held onto it for many years. How do you feel about the museum’s role in this? Should they have to give up the artwork? Should they be compensated? Why or Why not?
