When conducting research, it’s important to consider the types of sources available. Popular sources, such as magazines, newspapers, websites, and blogs, are intended for a general audience and are typically written by non-expert writers. They often provide quick overviews of topics and may include opinions, bias, or incomplete information. On the other hand, academic references are created by experts in the field and are aimed at an academic audience. These sources may include peer-reviewed journals, scholarly books, and specialized websites. Literary sources offer more in-depth analyses of topics and are more likely to be accurate and unbiased. In regard to the research paper, both fiction and nonfiction could be considered as topics of discussion. I found several interesting sources on gun violence, majority of which are published very recently because of current rising crime rates. I was able to go through most of the articles and settle for academic one that had facts rights, based on the research that I intend to do.
For this assignment, you are asked to create an annotated bibliography for 5 academic journal articles on your topic. To find them, use the same database you used for the previous assignment.
An annotated bibliography is a useful tool in assessing the usefulness of particular sources for your project. The link below contains a model of an annotated bibliography for you to follow. Each entry in the an annotated bibliography MUST contain the following information:
1. A full citation of each source in MLA (please make sure you do this correctly. If you do not know how to format an MLA citation for a source you found in an online database, either consult the lab course or look it up online. Hint, giving the URL where you found the source is wrong)
2. A short paragraph which does two things: a) provides a brief summary of the source; b) summarizes the main claim(s) of that source. Item b is very important.
