Craft an introduction which identifies Edmundson’s major claim(s), audience, and rhetorical strategies
I would like you to examine Mark Edmundson’s rhetorical strategies in one of the essays we have read thus far. In your analysis, be sure to address how Edmundson uses those strategies to appeal to a specific audience. (3 pages, MLA format). You have to write a rough draft and final draft as well.

Successful papers will:
- Craft an introduction which identifies Edmundson’s major claim(s), audience, and rhetorical strategies
- Create a body which provides examples and appropriate analysis of how the strategies appeal to his audience
- Conclude with a take-away: what conclusion(s) should readers draw from your analysis?
- Be well organized, with fluid transitions among sentences and paragraphs
- Contain no grammatical errors; be especially careful to avoid sentence-level errors (fragments, comma splices, run-ons). If you are unclear about how to fix these mistakes, consult Strunk and White’s section on commas, periods, and semi-colons.
- Be clear, concise, and specific
- Cite all direct quotes and paraphrases with appropriate MLA documentation. If you are unsure how to do this, review the Purdue OWL website on MLA citation.
*One caveat: when discussing Edmundson’s audience, make sure to be as specific as possible, as well as provide reasons for your assertions. Avoid broad, unsubstantiated generalizations about an author’s audience (e.g., “Edmundson’s audience is young people.” This claim is too general). When you identify a specific group to whom he is writing, make sure you can back up the claim with evidence: what evidence is there that Edmundson is writing to a particular group of people? How is he attempting to connect to that group’s assumed values, beliefs, etc.?)
