Evaluating an Assessment Tool
Submit the assignment by 11:59 PM PT Sunday of Module 2.
In Module 2, we discussed the characteristics of young children and the need to assess them differently from older children.
In the application assignment, you will locate and view a video of a young child participating in an assessment and reflect on best practices.
- Create a Word document for your response.
- Use APA format for the paper, title page, references page, and in-text citations.
- Develop an introduction and conclusion for the paper.
Step 1. View
Conduct a search online and view a video of a young child participating in an assessment (i.e., Brigance Early Childhood Screening Tool, a standardized norm-referenced measure of cognitive development of young children).
Step 2. Reflect
Use this video to answer each question in 1 or 2 well-developed paragraphs.
- Reflect upon the assessment items. Do you think they were appropriate for the child? Why or why not?
- Reflect on the way the child responded to the prompts? Was the child comfortable? What makes you think that the child was or was not comfortable?
- Describe your impressions of the child’s abilities from what you observed. Is there a skill for which the child could use extra practice or scaffolding? How would you integrate activities in the regular day to address any areas of need observed in the assessment?
*Note: Include a link to your video so your professor can view it. Include the name of the assessment in your work.
