Student1:

Diversifying a police force can reduce conflicts between officers and the community because they can lead to shifts in deployment and department norms. This could be beneficial because the idea is to put white officers that are more violent toward Black civilians into white neighborhoods, which would shrink the gap in force rates relative to Black officers.

The tv show I will talk about is called Criminal Minds, and the officer I will be talking about is Derek Morgan. He is a black FBI officer, and in one of the episodes, Morgan is on the scene of an active investigation, and the family is very clearly appalled that a Black man is investigating their son’s case. The officer is highly ranked because he is a detective for the FBI. In this particular episode, Morgan had to deal with many things. The family was racist, the fact that he had to be taken off of the case because of how much the family was complaining and even self-doubt, and it was unfortunate. This entire thing was shown in the episode, and it was necessary to see it because these things happen daily to African Americans. Let me know your thoughts!

Student 2:

Increasing the diversity of a police force can aid in reducing the amount of confrontations that take place between officers and residents of that community by improving general trust and understanding between the police and the community they serve. fewer latent biases By exposing officers to a wider range of life experiences and points of view, a more diverse police force can help to decrease the effects of unconscious bias. This could lead to more equitable police techniques and reduce the prevalence of biased behavior.

I choose the show The Rookie. This TV show has a diverse cast in both high ranking low ranking officers. One of the key characters in the show The Rookie is a Latina named Angela Lopez. She is a training officer entrusted with directing and supervising the training of new officers. As a training officer, Angela is in charge of assisting the new hires with settling into their new positions and learning the fundamentals of police. She gives them information on the demands of being an officer as well as the abilities needed for success. She also acts as a mentor to the rookies, guiding them as they negotiate the difficulties of the LAPD and the criminal justice system. In the series, Angela starts out as a training officer before becoming a detective. She is in charge of overseeing all rookie officers’ training and serving as their mentor because she is a training officer. Angela is regarded as an authority on the LAPD and its practices and is well-liked by both her subordinates and colleagues. She is regarded as a leader in the department and has a wealth of expertise and knowledge. The challenges that Black and Latina female police officers commonly encounter at work are discussed in the show. Due to her gender and race, Angela confronts additional difficulties, and the show frequently highlights her battles to get the respect of her classmates and superiors. She experiences prejudice and discrimination, as well as frequent omission and undervaluation by her peers. Despite this, she is adamant about proving her worth and succeeding at work to show her strength of character and dedication to the position.
