This week we will focus on asthma and its management. After completing your assigned readings, review the NHLBI guidelines. These guidelines will explain the stepwise approach that is used in practice for managing asthma patients. When there are multiple treatments for a condition, such as short-acting beta-agonists, inhaled corticosteroids, and leukotriene receptor antagonists for asthma, the guidelines provide recommendations on when to use each treatment based on evidence. There were some new guidelines released in 2019, the Global Initiative for Asthma or GINA guidelines. These guidelines introduced some new recommendations that deviate significantly from traditional practice. Do note that the GINA recommendations are for adults and adolescents only, and the NHLBI guidelines address all ages. After reviewing these guidelines you will need to prepare a power point presentation that is to be completed by Sunday.
