Assignment: Counterfeit medicines are a global scourge. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that as much as 10% of the half-trillion-dollar pharmaceutical market is counterfeit. The WHO suggests that up to 50% of medicines sold on the internet are counterfeit, while illegal online pharmacies are the most widespread in the European Union and the United States. Study the problem of the online trade in counterfeit medicines, provide the characteristics of online hotspots where these counterfeit products are offered for sale, and discuss the existing responses to drive online rogue pharmacies and other venues out of business.
